Summary of Reply – Doran and Horst have raised questions about the choice of values for deposition velocity used in our model. Their analysis implies that we have used values that would overestimate deposition and in some cases, exceed a theoretical maximum they derived. The deposition velocity is a way of parameterizing a multiplicity of complex processes that govern the removal of material. …. Thus, at no time can DH’s equations 3-6 describe the situation in our lowest box and so the existence of a theoretical maximum value for the effective deposition velocity under the assumptions leading to Equation 7 is not relevant to our case.
